Instructor and creator guide
Becoming an instructor, planning and building courses, assessments and certificates, review and publishing, live sessions and cohorts, learners, analytics, earnings, rights and AI.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| At launch | Planned for the platform's first public release |
| Planned | Planned for the release that opens courses, cohorts, events and payments |
| Later | Planned for a later release, with the AI course builder and AI tutor |
1. About this guide
Momin Sheikh is planned to be the first instructor and author on the platform; guest instructors and creators follow when the learning release opens.
| Role | What it does |
|---|---|
| Primary instructor | Owns the course's content and teaching, and answers for its quality |
| Co-instructor | Shares the teaching and building |
| Guest | Contributes a session or lesson |
| Mentor | Works with individual learners or groups |
| Reviewer | Checks accuracy, quality and rights before publication |
An instructor builds and teaches but does not publish alone: a person with publishing permission approves each course.
2. Becoming an instructor or creator
Guest instructors are invited. If you would like to teach, tell the content team through the contact page what you would teach, to whom and why you are the person to teach it. Send a one-paragraph proposal, not a full course.
- Step 1: Invitation or proposal
- Step 2: Verification
- Step 3: Agreement signed
- Step 4: Course idea approved
- Step 5: Build begins
ICG-D-01. No course is built for sale, no material is published under an instructor's or creator's name and no revenue share applies until the person is verified and has signed MSE-124. No fee is ever charged to become an instructor or creator.
3. Planning and building a course
A proposal states the audience, outcomes, format, skills, length, prerequisites, assessment and language. Write the outcomes first; every lesson, quiz and assignment should serve one of them.
- Step 1: Idea
- Step 2: Planning
- Step 3: Draft
- Step 4: Content production
- Step 5: Internal review
- Step 6: Beta
- Step 7: Published
- Step 8: Updated
- Step 9: Retired
A lesson refers to its content item rather than holding a copy, so a correction reaches every course that uses it.
| Material | Accessibility requirement (MSE-36) |
|---|---|
| Prerecorded video | Synchronised captions and a transcript, before publication |
| Prerecorded audio | A full transcript published with it |
| Images that carry information | Alternative text that conveys the information |
| Documents and slides | Real headings, readable order and real text |
| Colour | Information never carried by colour alone |
Write in the house style: plain words, short sentences, British spelling and claims you can support. Translations are reviewed by a person; machine translation is never published unreviewed.
4. Quizzes, assignments and certificates
Each quiz states its passing score, attempts and any time limit. Each assignment has a published rubric. Certificates are issued only by the platform's single certificate engine.
ICG-D-02. Every assessed grade is given or confirmed by a person named on the course. AI may suggest feedback against the published rubric, but no grade or certificate is issued on an AI assessment alone.
5. Review and publishing
- Step 1: Author
- Step 2: Editor
- Step 3: Reviewer
- Step 4: Subject expert for technical material
- Step 5: Approver
- Step 6: Publisher
Internal review checks quality, accuracy, accessibility and rights. A quality label (draft, reviewed, verified, expert reviewed) is applied only when the check it names has happened. Content drafted by AI is labelled until a person has reviewed and approved it.
ICG-D-03. Retiring a course never removes a learner's access that was bought outright, never invalidates a certificate already issued and never changes the rules for learners already enrolled.
6. Live sessions, cohorts and learners
A session is recorded only with notice to everyone attending and a visible indicator; learners can choose not to appear on camera. Answer questions in the course space rather than privately, and keep direct messages about the course.
ICG-D-04. Instructors see learner information only for their own courses and only as far as teaching and grading need. Learner personal data is never exported by an instructor or used for the instructor's own marketing.
ICG-D-05. Instructors never moderate, remove, edit or solicit reviews of their own courses, and never offer anything in exchange for a review.
7. Earnings and rights
Revenue share is calculated on the net value of a sale after refunds and before taxes, and the rule in force at the sale is frozen into it. Entries move pending, eligible, approved, scheduled and paid; a paid entry is never edited. No share is set in this guide.
ICG-D-06. An instructor's or creator's statement reconciles line by line to the revenue ledger, and a question about it is answered in writing with the ledger lines it concerns.
Who owns a course and what licence each side grants is set in your agreement and is [to be set with counsel]. Use only material you own or have permission to use, and disclose any AI tool used.
